Spotlight June - Soccer Revolution

It is only right, now with World Cup fever rising to a true crescendo, that we take time out to highlight a new mobile football game available here at Commodoregaming.com. The game is Soccer Revolution, a mobile football game as mobile football games are meant to be and one of the best of its kind.

A few minutes into play with Soccer Revolution and it becomes clear that if we’re talking about look, feel and game play, developer Movilenio took its inspiration from the best of yesteryears football games, the legendary Sensible Soccer. There is more than just one similarity between the two titles. For starters, there’s the top down viewpoint. But more importantly, the game play takes a direct cue from Sensible Soccer with its simple and one-button reliant controls.

The directional buttons are used to move around and the 5 (or the clickable d-pad if your phone comes equipped with one) is used for an impressive variety of shots. A short click is used to pass and a long press followed by a release is used for a shot, for example. Double clicks can be used for lobs and so on. It might take a short while to get used to, but eventually it makes for intuitive game play that is easy to control. And it is exactly this sort of game play that makes Soccer Revolution such a great fit for mobile football entertainment. And just like with its legendary ancestor, there is enough depth to discover behind its simplistic exterior.

Game modes include a, rather fitting, World Cup mode, in which tournament progress can thankfully be saved and a friendly match mode, for a quick match or two. Length of matches can be customized and there’s enough national teams from all over the world with more or less faithful skill sets to toy around with. One thing about Soccer Revolution that might put some players off is its lack of  an official FIFA license, but what good would such a license be if the game play wouldn’t be spot on. Besides, no (fake) names are being named in the game and the character sprites on screen are non-descriptive enough so that they could be anyone you would want them to be. Bottom line, if you are looking for a great and playable footie game for your mobile to kill some time in between televised World Cup matches, then Soccer Revolution is where it’s at.
